Lost in Summer: Vis Island (05-09 OKT 2025)

We are not giving up this summer easily!

We will kayak around the island of Vis in 20-25 C in October. Yes, we are!

A half-day trip, including a wonderful boat trip on a wide sea, between islands: the furthest from the coast, deep in the turquoise velvet of the Adriatic Sea, lies this jewel, the island of Vis. This is the feeling of being “elsewhere”, a total disconnection from the noisy world.

Vis is a realm of mindful patience, audible breath and crystal clear nature. There are no souvenir shops selling puffy unicorns with sunglasses, or beaches pulsating with beachgoers just passing through. We love places like this: it’s just for the people who want to be here, and they’re here for the same reason we are: being away from it all and experiencing pure nature.

The shores of Vis, and the neighbouring islands, are home to some of the Adriatic’s loveliest small towns and amazing kayaking terrain. An ideal autumn retreat from the incoming chill. We’re escaping here now for five full days of kayaking.

For your safety and to give you the attention you deserve, our tours are always small group tours.

The maximum number of people on the tour is 10, with 2 experienced, British Canoeing SKL certified leaders.

Vis is in the middle of the Adriatic! The sky-blue sea is all around, and like Don Quixote next to Sancho Panza, his faithful companion, the island of Bisevo, stands beside the island of Vis. Both islands are carved out of the same limestone by the sea, but the result is completely different.

Bisevo, like good Swiss cheese, is full of caves, while the southern part of Vis is a Chinese wall that will resist (for a while longer) the daily onslaught of the sea. There are towers and gates and garages and terraces made of rock and opening onto the sea. Like a city turned to stone, it entertained our paddling team for hours.

The sea here in the southern side of Vis resembles oceanic sea states with swellbreathing gently” and its power is felt even in calm weather. We visited in both calm and in windier weather, and if you like gentle, dignified “travelling waves” or swell, of a metre or even two metres, this is the place for you to experience it. This tour is not for beginners due to the frequent swell and playful wind waves.

After several times of circumnavigating the magnificent Zakynthos in Greece and a couple of tours of Corsica, I can say that the caves on these two islands (Vis and Bisevo) are stunningly beautiful.

Vis is the furthest Croatian island from the mainland. Its southern side is exposed to the Adriatic swell, so here you can paddle in a Mediterranean climate and an oceanic atmosphere! We choose our terrain depending on the weather, but the chances of a nice swell coming from far away are much higher here than in most of our other Adriatic kayaking terrains.

We have a different itinerary planned for each day, which we change flexibly depending on the mood, strength of the company and the weather. We are on the water for about 6-7 hours every day, taking our minivan to the starting point.

We paddle between about 20-25 km per day, with breaks every 90 minutes or so.

From the harbor of Vis we drive to Rukavac, where we move into our gorgeous accommodation on the southern side of the island. Several little islands surround Vis, including Bisevo with its famous bottom-lit Blue Cave and one of our favorite seaside towns: Komiza. The name of the game here is “slowing down”. It’s easy.

We quiet down, we listen and explore. We arrive at a distant place that may just seem closer to us than our neighboring street back home.

That’s how many days on the water: 5 days of kayaking

Thank you for choosing Explorers.
We are really looking forward to it!

Fine print:

The program will be held with a minimum of 7 participants. Kayak canoe trips are nature-adapted, weather-defying, mostly pure joy, but sometimes a challenge. With the exception of sea tours, tours will only be cancelled and refunded in the event of an accident or extreme weather (storm, hail, etc.). In all other cases, e.g. sea tours, the weather is part of the discovery and we will have to adapt our plans. If the cancellation period has expired and you do not show up for the tour, the tour fee will not be refunded. Detailed cancellation conditions are set out in the GTC.
