ZAKYNTHOS EXPEDITION, GREECE 20-27 AUG 2026

890.00

This Greek island knows everything that makes a sea kayaker’s heart beat faster.

Each day we’ll kayak into a different world: along shores lined with sparkling white beaches, deep into coves, under magical rock formations that reach to the sky, through cave-tunnels to come out on the other side, under stone arches and even through a giant rock in the sea to find the bluest sea we’ve ever seen.

The locals are extraordinarily kind and they cook delicious food in every taverna. We’ll sleep on the beach in the warm night air under a tent made of stars.

Come and see it for yourself. It’s indescribable.

This is an advanced sea kayaking tour. Only for kayakers with some experience on sea or whitewater, who paddle regularly during the season and are in good shape.

For your safety and to ensure you get the attention you deserve, our tours are always small group tours.

The maximum number of people on the tour is 10, with 2 experienced, British Canoeing SKL certified leaders.

Why Join This Tour

This is a 6-day expedition around the island of Zakynthos. Circumnavigating Zakynthos by kayak is a physical challenge as well as nourishment for the spirit.

The total distance is about 120 km with lots of twists and turns. We will need to take supplies with us but water and food will be available at almost every stop. Of course we will take extras of the most important things for our safety so that if we need to skip any opportunity to replenish our supplies due to weather or any other obstacle, we will not lack for anything.

We’ll paddle 15 to 30 km per day for 6 days, with many stops to rest. There may be days with just 10 km or so but we all need to be able to do 30 km or more if necessary, since we’ll adjust our distances to accommodate weather conditions, especially wind conditions.

We will sleep under the super-starry sky at least five nights (or in tents if desired), on the shores of the island, alongside magnificent views, totally free.

The first and last nights we will sleep in a well-equipped, wonderful campground, in our own tents.

Outline Itinerary

Day 0

We’ll welcome you warmly at Zakynthos airport and take you to our base, a beautiful campground. We’ll learn each other’s names and have a good chat about our plans, goals and all kinds of important things. Then we’ll get to know our kayaks, adjust everything that needs to be adjusted, you know, ropes, carabiners and whatnot. Then maybe, just maybe, we’ll splash a bit in the warm sea. A Greek meal in the evening? Of course!

Day 1

We’ll get up early, pack our kayaks and put any extras into our van, which will stay at the campground, then we’re on our way! We’ll start off paddling north along the east coast of the island and explore the best beaches (yes, we’re going to swim a lot), and we’ll get used to the sea, learn a few things about kayaking, and practice a few important things such as communication and rescues that we’ll need for our safety. By evening we’ll arrive in Agios Nikolaos Bay, where small seaside restaurants and a super special beach awaits us for the night. Not bad, not bad. In the evening we’ll hear a few famous myths….

Kayaking distance: about 18 km

Day 2

We’ll start at sunrise. Once everyone has had their fill of water and food, everything and everyone is in their place, and we’ve all said “challenge accepted,” we’ll paddle to the northern tip of the Island.  Here we’ll get the full experience of the Blue Lagoon, one of the most beautiful, before the tour boats arrive. Then we’ll leave the island’s north side behind us and start to explore the western shores, lined with tall rock formations and coves.  From here we’ll head for Navagio Bay, which unfortunately you can’t miss. Why you can’t miss it is clear from the pictures. But why “unfortunately”? You’ll have to see for yourself. From here we’ll continue south and spend the night in one of our favorite places, in a quiet little bay where a friendly local lady serves wonderful Greek dishes such as a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers and feta, dripping with fresh olive oil, grilled meats, baklava, and cold melon out of an adorable little camper van for us tired kayakers.

Kayaking distance: approximately 25 km

Day 3

We’ll continue to the south along exciting shorelines. This is a more relaxed day. We’ll have dinner at an amazing seaside restaurant, and we’ll sleep in total comfort with a view of the sunset, totally free.

Kayaking distance: approximately 15 km

Day 4

Now we’re getting to the really good part. Next up is a cavalcade of unparalleled caves and rock formations. We’ve given them each names but we’re curious what you will choose to call them! This is a challenging day full of earthly marvels and our goal is to reach the neighborhood of the turtle island that lies at the southwestern corner of Zakynthos. If we want there is a nice restaurant to have dinner in. At night we sleep on a wonderful beach yet again …

Kayaking distance: approximately 27 km

Day 5

We’ll stop briefly at the magical turtle Island which has unfortunately been sacrificed on the altar of tourism, and then continue on our way, far from the crowded beaches, toward the eastern side of the island. This starts with a spectacular crossing, which is a lot of work especially if there is wind. But that’s how circumnavigating islands goes 😉! And then there are more golden sandy beaches and we’ll have lunch at a gorgeous place, again with a view. Another night on the beach with opportunities for a meal and a cold beer.

Kayaking distance: approximately 25 km

Day 6

We’ll start in the early morning so that, leaving the city of Zakynthos and many swimming spots behind, we’ll arrive comfortably exhausted for a late lunch at Zante Campground where we’ll celebrate and relax before flying out the next day. We did it!

Day 7

At the airport we’ll say our tearful goodbyes. Of course these may be tears of joy as well 😉but alongside that pleasant exhaustion our hearts beat proudly (“we did it!!!!”) under our freshly washed t-shirts 🙂
