Sea Kayaking the Channel Islands – Jersey & Sark 11-18 July 2026

350.00875.00

If you’ve paddled in many places before, the Channel Islands will still feel new. Jersey and Sark redefine what moving water can be: a coastline rebuilt twice a day by one of the largest tidal ranges on the planet. Up to 10–12 metres of rise and fall creates a constantly shifting seascape of reefs, cliffs, caves and fast-flowing tidal streams.

This is not just another destination. It’s a different water type.

Different rhythm.
Different decisions in the boat.
A place where the tide becomes an active element you read, use, and respond to — the heart of modern dynamic coastal paddling.

To ensure your safety and the attention you deserve, our tours are always small group.

In this case, the ideal group size is 6-8 people, plus two experienced BCUK ASKL certified sea kayak guides.

This is an intermediate to advanced sea kayaking tour. The tour is enjoyable and safe for kayakers who have some sea or whitewater experience, paddle regularly during the season.

This tour does not necessarily require a dry suit. A thin neoprene top and pants (wetsuit) are also suitable during this period.

Description

Why It’s Special

In most sea kayaking environments the sea is a medium you travel through.
Around Jersey, the water itself becomes the experience.

Spring tides — the period we’ll be there — move incredible volumes of water through tight headlands and reef systems. The result:

  • Extreme tidal range: up to 12 m of vertical movement, twice a day.
  • Fast-flowing tidal streams: 3–6 knots of continuous movement, often with the feel of ocean whitewater.
  • Overfalls & tide races: Noirmont Point, Belle Hougue, White Rock — iconic British tidal training grounds.
  • Rocky, expressive coastline: gullies, caves, cliff alleys, big granite architecture.
  • Open-water crossings: out to Les Écréhous and, weather permitting, to the remote shores of Sark.
  • Wildlife: seals, seabirds, occasionally dolphins, and some of the clearest water in Western Europe.

This environment asks for good decisions, clean lines and active water-reading.
It rewards curiosity, timing and precision.

What This Week Is About

  • Introducing you to Jersey’s best tidal race venues
  • Developing solid skills for moving water and dynamic coastal conditions
  • Building confidence to play, surf and manoeuvre in fast tidal flow
  • Supporting paddlers progressing toward BCAB (Adv) Sea Kayak Leader

This week isn’t just skill development.
It’s a shift in how you understand tide, energy and movement — the core of advanced sea kayaking.

Your Coaches & Local Partner

The programme is designed with our trusted local partner Kayak Nomad Jersey, ensuring deep local knowledge, precision planning and safe tidal timing.

Co-lead guides:
David Priddis ASKL, Level 3 Coach – and Zoltan Bruckner

David brings 25+ years of Channel Islands experience, competitive surf-kayaking background, and major endurance achievements (Loire 725, Devizes–Westminster, Yukon River Quest).
This combination of local expertise and international leadership defines the quality and safety of the week.

Jersey – Big Tides, Big Features

Jersey’s coastline falls into three distinct zones:

North Coast
Granite cliffs, caves, narrow slots and exposed headlands.
Best for: strong intermediate & advanced paddlers.

South Coast
Sheltered bays such as St Brelade’s and St Aubin’s.
Best for: warm-up days, skills practice, relaxed journeys.

South-East Coast (Ramsar Site)
A tidal reef labyrinth — channels at high water, vast reef flats at low tide.
Best for: all levels with proper tidal planning.

This is a place where charts come alive and water-reading becomes a true craft.

Sark – Quiet, Wild, Timeless

Sark is a small, car-free island with a dramatic, sculpted coastline.

  • A maze of sea caves and tunnels, including the Gouliot Caves
  • Sheer cliffs and deep-cut gullies
  • The iconic La Coupée ridge overhead
  • Clear water, seals, and superb geology
  • Circumnavigable in a single day in the right conditions

Remote, raw and unforgettable — a perfect counterpart to Jersey’s dynamic coast.

What You’ll Experience During the Week

  • Up to 12 metres of tidal movement shaping the coast each day
  • Fast tidal streams, tide races, and strong headland features
  • Open-water journeys to islands and reefs
  • A blend of exploration, coaching and real decision-making
  • Five days on the water + one guided land day

A week that stretches your paddling, sharpens your instincts and deepens your confidence in dynamic tidal environments.

Thank you for choosing Explorers and Sea Kayaking Anglesey, and we look forward to seeing you!

The small print:

The tour will go ahead with a minimum of 5 people. Kayak and canoe tours must adjust to nature and to weather conditions. They usually result in a joyful experience but can present some challenges. With the exception of sea tours, we only cancel tours and refund money in the case of dangerous or extreme weather conditions (storms, hail, etc.). In any other case, for example on sea tours, the weather is part of our exploration. If the cancellation period has ended and you do not appear at the agreed meeting place, the tour is considered as having been conducted, and payment is not refunded, nor can it be redirected to another tour.
